Golden Apple invests in the ongoing learning of our Award-winning teachers, as well as their colleagues.
As part of the Award for Excellence in Teaching, Golden Apple invests in each winner’s professional development. The grant of $4,000 to be used for an individually designed professional development plan is one of the most important ways in which we honor teachers. The grant is also a way that Golden Apple seeks to raise awareness about the importance of continued professional learning.
Each professional development plan is designed by the Golden Apple Award winner to meet his or her specific desires for continued learning and the needs of his or her students.
Most Golden Apple Award winners will tell you that one of the greatest values they receive from winning the award is the opportunity to become part of an ongoing community of exemplary teachers.
The Golden Apple Academy of Fellows meets regularly – once in the fall semester, twice in the spring semester, and in the summer for a seminar or conference which other teachers are invited to attend.
The agenda for meetings in the fall and spring most often includes workshops presented by the Fellows themselves, as they share with one another their best practices for the classroom.
